Match the Galveston court to its clerk

This guide concerns Galveston, Texas court records. The District Clerk keeps the pleadings and filed papers of the courts it serves. The County Clerk separately serves the county courts at law. Use the court name on the citation, case result or order to decide which office holds the record; a request addressed to the wrong clerk may not locate it even when the case exists.

Decide what you are trying to establish before searching. For the charge filed and its outcome, seek the court docket and disposition. An arrest report, current jail entry and court judgment are different records, and a county court search does not certify a person’s entire Texas or national history. Keep the police incident number separate from any court case number.

Recover the official case search from an old bookmark

The legacy public-access service directs users to Tyler Odyssey Portal at portalnav19.galvestoncountytx.gov/portal or reSearchTX for case and party information. Use the current Search Court Records links on the clerk’s official pages to reach the appropriate system. The Tyler entry requires cookies; an access or browser-setting error is not a no-record result.

When you locate a possible match, preserve the case number, court, parties and filing date. Read later events to find the disposition rather than stopping at the first charge. Where an available document link answers the question, save the actual filing. If similar names remain unresolved, ask the clerk what additional identifying information can be used before attaching the case to a person.

The District Clerk copy form orders an existing document

The District Clerk’s online Request for Copies form is explicitly limited to documents already filed with that office. It cannot produce reports or a list of cases. Identify the file first, then give the case number, court, defendant, document name or dated event, number of copies and whether certification is needed. Asking for a final judgment is more precise than asking for everything under a person’s name.

The District Clerk’s forms page also lists a separate Request for Criminal Background Check. That listing does not make the document-copy form a background-search order. Before using the separate service, ask the clerk which courts, dates and record types it covers and what fee applies; its detailed scope and price were not established in the reviewed material. Do not describe an office-limited search as a statewide certificate.

Keep the two offices’ charges separate

The District Clerk’s posted miscellaneous schedule lists $1 per page for paper copies or paper converted to electronic delivery. Existing electronic copies are listed at $0.10 per page, with a $1 minimum for up to ten pages. Certification adds $5 for the certificate and seal. Ask which format the office holds before calculating a total, since scanning a paper file is priced differently from supplying existing electronic pages.

For County Clerk case documents, the county FAQ lists plain copies at $1 per page and certified copies at $5 certification plus $1 per page for each document. It describes ordering in person or by telephone with mailed delivery. These are that clerk’s charges, not a universal portal price. Confirm postage, payment and any additional work with the office handling the order.

Reach the records office with a specific request

The District Clerk’s Galveston office is at 600 59th Street, Room 4001, Galveston, TX 77551, telephone 409-766-2424. It lists Monday–Friday hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m. The League City office is at 174 Calder Road, League City, TX 77573, telephone 281-316-8729, with listed hours of 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Account for holidays before traveling.

[email protected] is for general District Clerk records inquiries, not filings, notices or hearing requests. Include the identified case and requested document when asking about copies or an unavailable image. The reviewed copy service does not publish a guaranteed fulfillment period, so ask for the expected delivery and whether an older file needs retrieval before relying on a deadline.

Verify the copy, restrictions and final outcome

On receipt, compare the court and case number, page count and certification with the request. If a charge was dismissed or changed, retain the later disposition with the earlier charging document. Report a suspected mismatch to the clerk holding the file, with the exact entry and supporting order. The District Clerk lists separate motions to inspect or receive sealed files; the existence of a public search does not authorize access to sealed material.

If nothing appears online, distinguish an unknown case number, a failed portal session and a clerk-confirmed absence within a stated search scope. Ask about the named court and approximate filing period. A broader conclusion about the person cannot be drawn merely because one portal did not return a match.
